Flaherty & Collins, a multifamily developer, builder, and manager, has formally launched its acquisitions division. As part of the launch, the firm has appointed Chris Reckley as vice president of acquisitions to lead and scale the newly created business line.
In his role, Reckley will identify, evaluate, and execute acquisition opportunities across markets and will work closely with the executive team to drive portfolio expansion in both existing and emerging geographies.
He joins with more than 10 years of experience in real estate acquisitions and investment. Most recently, he was director of acquisitions at Dietz Property Group, where he led acquisition strategies across multifamily and mixed-use properties.
“Launching the acquisitions division marks a significant milestone in our evolution,” says CEO Robert Flaherty. “Chris brings deep industry experience, proven deal execution skills, and strategic insight that will be instrumental as we accelerate growth and broaden our footprint. We are delighted to have him lead this division at such a pivotal time.”
Multifamily Executive caught up with Flaherty to discuss the new division and the firm’s future.
Why is the time right for Flaherty & Collins to launch an acquisitions division?
The timing couldn’t be better. Over the past several years, we’ve built a strong foundation through development and management, and launching an acquisitions division is a natural next step in our evolution. It allows us to strategically grow our portfolio in a way that complements our core strengths while capitalizing on current opportunities in the market. Acquisitions are a critical component of our 10-year growth plan and will continue to advance our purpose of creating value through vibrant communities.
What types of assets or markets are you most focused on?
We’re primarily focused on high-quality multifamily assets in strong or emerging markets where we already have operational expertise, or where we see clear potential for long-term growth. That includes both stabilized and value-add opportunities where we can bring our management and development experience to enhance performance and resident experience.
How are today’s market conditions influencing your acquisitions strategy?
Current market conditions are creating unique opportunities to acquire quality assets below replacement cost and at a time when many owners are reassessing their portfolios. Having operated more than 60,000 units across the country, both for ourselves and on behalf of other owners, we bring deep operational insight that informs every acquisition decision. Our strategy is disciplined but proactive: We’re leveraging our capital relationships and decades of experience to identify properties where we can add real value.
How do you see acquisitions shaping the company’s long-term portfolio mix?
Acquisitions will play a defining role in balancing our portfolio. By adding established assets alongside our development pipeline, we’re creating more stability, diversification, and growth potential. This approach strengthens our ability to deliver consistent returns while remaining true to our mission of building and maintaining vibrant communities.
What else is ahead for Flaherty & Collins?
We’re continuing to grow in a way that’s intentional and sustainable. We're expanding into new markets, deepening our relationships with partners and investors, and continuing to innovate in both development and management. The addition of our acquisitions platform is just one part of a broader strategy to position Flaherty & Collins for the next decade of success.
